City Agrees To New Contract With Firefighters, City Clerk Announces Retirement

Last Fall Redding voters rejected a proposal that would have the City Clerk appointed rather than elected, but the person now taking the job was appointed by the Redding City Council Tuesday night. Pam Mize, who had held the position for more than 12 years, announced her retirement at the end of June. Sharlene Tipton has held various positions in city government, including more than a dozen years in the Clerk’s Office working beside Mize. Tipton will serve the remainder of the term through 2026.

Also Tuesday night, the council agreed to a new 18 month contract with the city’s firefighters. Union members will pay an additional 5% toward their health insurance and will pay about half the cost of their retirement. They’ll enjoy a 16% raise now and another 4% in January. Other concessions were made concerning vacation days and continuing education costs.
