Update: Deputies Seek Driver After Head-On Crash Near Palo Cedro

What was first believed to be a game of chicken involving two vehicles in Palo Cedro Wednesday morning is now being characterized as more of a one-sided incident. At around 6:30AM, witnesses on Red Bud Lane off Deschutes Road reported two people screaming at each other, then driving toward each other and intentionally colliding head-on. The Chevy pickup and BMW both sustained major damage and were not drivable following the crash. Both drivers abandoned their vehicles and fled on foot but with help from a CHP helicopter one them was captured. After questioning him and other witnesses, the Sheriff’s Office is calling him the victim. He said the other driver collided with him and assaulted him before fleeing. The other party is still being sought by the Sheriff’s Office, but the names of both drivers are being withheld.
