The Shasta County Grand Jury says jail inmates, as well as correctional deputies, suffer an unacceptable level of risk to contract MRSA, an antibiotic-resistant Staph infection that’s apparently fairly common in correctional facilities. One reason for the problem is a lack of knowledge among staffmembers. Wellpath is a company contracted by the county to care for jail inmates. The Grand Jury says Wellpath has been failing to properly screen inmates upon their booking, and the Sheriff’s Office does not properly instruct inmates about the importance of staying clean and other preventative measures.
