Update: Supervisors Vote To Keep Contract Offer As County Workers Strike

A strike continues for hundreds of Shasta County workers represented by UPEC. The planned two week strike began on Monday. during Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting, union members and their supporters packed the board chambers to voice their grievances. The union is asking for a 15% wage increase, which county finance officials say would cost around $11 Million annually. During a closed session the board voted to stick with their same contract offer, but also decided to look into forming an ad hoc citizens committee to try and reach a compromise. Many county offices have been forced to close, particularly Health and Human Services offices.
