A Corning man faces 39 federal counts involving the manufacture and sales of silencers for guns. 65-year-old James Lane Winslett is accused of manufacturing and dealing in unregistered guns, as the silencers are apparently defined by federal law. He also allegedly sold at least one to a person prohibited from owning guns, and failed to register as a firearms dealer or pay the necessary taxes. The indictment was issued by a federal grand jury on Thursday. If convicted Winslett could get 5 years in prison for manufacturing and dealing, and any of the 36 possession counts could get him another 10 years.
