27 Applications Have Been Received To Fill Open ROV Position

The Shasta County Board of Supervisors has come up with a screening process to select the next person to serve as County Clerk and Registrar of Voters. The elected position is being appointed by the Board of Supervisors following the early retirement of the long-serving Cathy Darling-Allen due to health issues. She and many other people have recommended the appointment of longtime Assistant Clerk/ROV Joanna Francescut. The term runs through January of 2027. It’s a fairly technical and very specialized job, but the only official qualifications are that the person be at least 18-years-old, a California resident who’s registered to vote in Shasta County, and cannot be affiliated with a collections agency. As of Thursday 27 applications had been received. The deadline to apply was Friday. They’ll be screened by a 3 person panel made up of Supervisors Kevin Crye and Tim Garman and Support Services Director Monica Fugitt. They can unanimously decide to eliminate any applicant and the others will move on to an interview process, which will be done by all five supervisors in open session on June 18th and 19th. The regular board meeting scheduled for the 18th will be held on the 17th.
