Officials at Cal Poly Humboldt say they’ve restored order and reclaimed the campus from demonstrators. Students had occupied Siemens Hall and Nelson Hall East as part of protests against the Israeli military action in Gaza. For more than a week, the protesters had remained in the barricaded buildings, which contain classrooms and offices. The entire campus was declared off-limits, with campus police warning that anyone present on campus was subject to arrest. At 2:30AM Tuesday morning the buildings and surrounding area were raided by a coalition of law enforcement personnel from around the state under the command of the Humboldt County Sheriff and the University Police Chief. 35 people were arrested and nobody was injured, according to the official statement. The arrestees face a variety of charges including unlawful assembly, vandalism, conspiracy, and assault on police officers. University employees who were involved will face disciplinary action. The campus in Arcata will remain closed until May 10th.
