65 Acre Prescribed Burn Planned Near Manzanita Lake

A prescribed burn is planned for Lassen Volcanic National Park Wednesday. If conditions are right, crews plan to torch 65 acres in the Manzanita Lake area near the main park entrance. The smoke is expected to linger for 2 or 3 days. Once significant rain has fallen, fire managers will ignite piles of brush and debris from thinning projects throughout the park. Lassen Park has for many years been using prescribed fire to manage growth in a way that mimics a natural landscape that existed prior to modern forest management practices.
