A record number of mosquitos have tested for West Nile Virus in Shasta County. The count of 67 positive mosquitos samples found throughout the district blows away the previous record of 48 set in 2015. Shasta Mosquito and Vector Control District is performing enhanced mosquito control in areas of high activity, including “ultra low volume adult mosquito control”. Residents can sign up to be notified of treatments in their area at shastamosquito.org. No human cases of West Nile Virus have been reported in Shasta County but there have been 14 statewide. The best way to fight mosquitos is to eliminate standing water where they breed.
