900 Acre Prescribed Burn Set To Begin Tuesday In South Redding

Some smoke will be seen Tuesday, and a lot of smoke will be seen Wednesday and Thursday, from a large prescribed burn project in South Redding. Close to 900 acres will be torched during a three day vegetation management project on the McConnell Foundation’s Gore Ranch property, located west of the Westwood Village Subdivision off Highway 273 and north of Clear Creek Road. Weather permitting, the project will start Tuesady with a 40 acre burn, followed on Wednesday and Thursday with burns of 400 acres each day. The primary purpose of the project is to create a break to protect populated areas in the event of a large wildfire. It also is intended to enhance grazing habitat and improve the watershed. The lead agency is Cal-Fire, with assistance from Shasta County and Redding Fire Departments.
