As of Friday, the Shasta County Elections Office had processed about half of the total number of ballots cast in last Tuesday’s election, but that’s unclear when viewing the Elections Department website. In past elections, press releases kept the public informed about the process and progress of the canvass, but the KQMS Newsroom has yet to receive any updates about remaining ballots. The county website says nearly 40,000 ballots have been processed while the Secretary of State’s website puts the number at just over 35,000 and says there are nearly 41,000 still to be processed. That would mean a voter turnout of around 65%. While that’s a lot of ballots, it was only a single item –or two items for City of Redding voters- but the Primary Ballot next June will be chock full of candidates and initiatives.
