Anyone in Shasta County who acquired an Alert FM device should be made aware that a test will be done Wednesday. The device went into service in 2022 and receives emergency notifications via FM radio signals so it can work in remote areas with poor cellphone service. A test message will be broadcast at 9:50AM Wednesday morning, and it shouldn’t be cause for alarm. The Sheriff’s Office gave away a number of the units over the past couple of years and they’re available for purchase at alertfm.com/store.
