Anderson Police arrested a man for making threats on Thursday after a standoff. A dependent adult called to report that her son, 35-year-old Zachary Gibbons, had threatened to kill her and her dog with a knife. When officers arrived at the house on Third Street, the victim had retreated down the road, while Gibbons was still inside. A perimeter was set up around the house with help from sheriff’s deputies. Officers tried to contact Gibbons but he did not respond. He apparently made many attempts to escape but could not see a way through the perimeter and ended up barricading himself in the attic. Officers forced their way through the back door and yelled for Gibbons to surrender, but he reportedly kept telling them to shoot him. Gibbons broke a hole through the siding of the home and climbed out into a tree. Eventually he was talked down and surrendered peacefully. He’s being held without bail on several charges.
