Around Five Thousand Pounds of Tri-Tip will be cooked to perfection in the Asphalt Cowboys’ biggest fundraiser of the year on September 10th. Money raised from the 69th annual barbecue in Lake Redding Park will be used for a variety of community needs, including Rodeo Week activities, but the cowboys also help local law enforcement agencies. On Tuesday they presented a $16,000 check to Shasta County Search and Rescue for 35 new radios they were required to purchase. They also gave Redding Police $11,000 for 5 ballistic shields to equip the city’s school resource officers. On Wednesday the cowboys will be all over town in their yellow shirts and green bandannas as they try to sell advance tickets for the event. A ticket gets a plate of Tri-Tip or chicken along with cole slaw, garlic bread and the famous cowboys beans. Diners can eat there or take it to go. There are reasons to stay, including live entertainment and an auction of some great items including a Silverthorn Resort houseboat vacation. It’ll be $12 the day of the event, but advance tickets are just $10. If no Asphalt Cowboy can be found, tickets information is at asphaltcowboys.org.
