The unemployment rate of 5.2% for Shasta County in September was lower than the 5.8% in August and a little higher than the 4.8% in September of last year. There were year-over losses in public education and a year-over boost in private education. There were also small losses in manufacturing and food services. There were 100 fewer people in the labor force since last September and 600 fewer than in August. Tehama County’s rate was 6% last month, it was 4.9% in Trinity County and 5.9% in Siskiyou County. The jobless rate for California was 5.3%, and it was 3.9% nationally.
