Bay Area Man Drowns On Lake Shasta On Saturday

A man drowned in Lake Shasta near the Hirz Bay Boat Ramp over the weekend. Saturday afternoon 29-year-old Luis Cornejo-Paz of Concord was swimming 30 to 40 feet from shore while towing an inflatable kayak with two people in it. He started struggling and called out for help, and then disappeared beneath the surface. Witnesses searched for him but the water was too murky to see. Shasta County Boating Deputies, U.S. Forest Service staff, medical personnel and CHP Air Operations all responded. 2-and-a-half hours later the body of Cornejo-Paz was found about 11 feet deep.
