The Bureau of Land Management needs a lot of volunteers for an ambitious tree planting project along Battle Creek. The BLM is hoping to plant more than 30,000 trees on the 306 acre Rancho Breisgau Unit of the BLM’s Sacramento River Bend area. It’s one of the last remaining parcels needing restoration to connect a major wildlife corridor of continuous riparian habitat from the Sacramento River all the way up to the headwaters of Battle Creek in Lassen Volcanic National Park. It’ll benefit 4 runs of Chinook Salmon and Steelhead, as well as other wildlife species. Volunteers should wear long pants and closed-toe shoes, bring lunch and water, and a hand trowel and meet at 8:30AM on Friday and Saturday the 11th and 12th of October at 3770 Gover Road south of Anderson. Volunteers should print and sign a liability waiver form that can be found on the BLM’s California website.
