A Cal-Fire investigation of the deadly Mill Fire in Siskiyou County has been handed over to the district attorney’s office. The Mill Fire started September 2nd of last year, destroying 92 homes, killing two women and injuring. Roseburg Forest Products has previously acknowledged that the fire started at their mill in Weed, blaming it an on-site co-generation plant that produces its own electricity from wood remnants. The company announced a $50 Million fund to compensate residents impacted by the fire, and hundreds have accepted compensation but many legal disputes remain. Cal-Fire’s statement on Friday simply reports the cause as “mill operations”.
