Agricultural and residential backyard burning may resume with permits starting Friday in the areas under Cal-Fire protection in the Shasta-Trinity Unit, as well as Tehama-Glenn and Siskiyou. Permits are required until the declared end of fire season, but they’re free. They can be obtained at burnpermit.fire.ca.gov. A permit must be in hand while burning. The ground should be scraped to the dirt ten feet around and a shovel and water supply should always be at hand. Burn piles cannot be left unattended, and they can be no larger than 4 feet wide and 4 feet high. Shasta County burn day information is available by calling 224-8777. Information on safe burning is at fire.ca.gov. The City of Redding will likely lift its ban on backyard burning soon.
