Canadian Skier Rescued On Mount Shasta After Suffering Broken Bones

An experienced backcountry skiier on a solo exploration of Mount Shasta had to be rescued last week. The 39-year-old Canadian man has spent two days summitting and hiking the mountain and was on his final descent down Avalanche Gulch Friday night when he crashed and suffered a badly broken leg. He couldn’t move so he called 911 for help. Siskiyou County Search and Rescue and Mount Shasta Climbing Rangers put together a team of skiers, snowmobilers and snowshoers. When they reached the man they found he had a broken Tibia and Fibula, and they skied him down the mountain in a litter to an ambulance waiting at Bunny Flat.
