Tehama County dog owners are cautioned about a Distemper breakout that’s spreading through the community. Some shelter dogs have had to be euthanized to prevent further spread, and 15 dogs remain quarantined. Cases have already been seen in Rancho Tehama, Corning and Gerber, as well as the outskirts of Red Bluff. Animal services warns that Coyotes, Racoons and Foxes might be helping to spread the highly contagious virus, with the greatest danger of contact being near rivers and creek beds. Signs of the Canine Distemper Virus include lethargy, fever, discharge from the nose or eyes and respiratory distress. It’s highly preventable with vaccine. Tehama County officials will announce Distemper and Parvo vaccination clinics in coming weeks.
