CHP Arrests Driver Who Fled Fatal Crash Near Cottonwood In June

An arrest has been made from a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed pedestrian in the Cottonwood area in June. At around 3 O’clock the morning of June 19th, a big Ford F-350 was southbound on Balls Ferry Road approaching the S-turn near Trefoil Lane at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control at the sharp turn and struck a large log that was blocking access to the railroad tracks. The impact knocked the log into a 41-year-old man and killed him. The crash caused the truck to get high-centered on the log and disable it. The driver was gone when the CHP arrived on scene. An investigation led the CHP to identify the driver as Spencer Earl Reno. Last Thursday Reno was pursued by officers after a reckless drunk driving incident in Cottonwood, and eventually arrested with a blood alcohol level more than three times the legal limit. On Wednesday Reno was arrested again and booked into jail on a Half Million Dollars bail.
