The CHP and the Siskiyou County Coroner are trying to figure out why a trucker crashed while traveling a straight flat stretch of highway in the daylight. At about 8:30AM Wednesday morning the driver of a 2001 Kenworth logging truck was southbound at around 55 miles an hour on Highway 97 north of West Ball Mountain Road when the truck drifted off the pavement, through a dirt irrigation ditch and into a plowed field, where it overturned onto the driver’s side. The driver, who’s name has not been released, was declared dead at the scene. Anyone with information is urged to call the Yreka Area CHP at 842-0530.
