CHP: Excessive Speed, Distracted Driving Factors In Separate Crashes On Sunday

Two crashes on Highway 299 Sunday serve as lessons for other drivers, according to the CHP. A crash at Whiskeytown was caused by a distracted driver. The major injury collision happened on Highway 299 West near Whiskey Creek. The CHP says one of the drivers was using a cell phone, and that was a factor. A crash on Highway 299 East Sunday morning was a result of excessive speeds on wet asphalt, according to the CHP. The car left the road on a curve and went almost 300 feet down an embankment and into a creek. The occupants were wearing seatbelts and sustained only minor injuries.
