CHP: Man Found Dead In Submerged Vehicle Not A Car Thief

The CHP wants to clear the record concerning a Redding man who has been found dead in Trinity County after being missing for three months. John Bartholomew is not a car thief, as a previous press release had implied. In January the 56-year-old Redding man had borrowed a Honda Accord with the permission of the owner. When he didn’t return the owner reported the car stolen, not knowing that Bartholomew was actually dead. The car was found Friday about a Hundred feet over the side of Highway 299 near Willow Creek. It had landed upside down on a rock outcropping near the Trinity River. A the time of the crash in January, it would have been underwater. The CHP issued another press release Tuesday to clarify that Bartholomew did not steal the car.
