CHP Maximum Enforcement Period Begins Friday Night

A special effort by the California Highway Patrol over this 3-day Memorial Day weekend will focus on slowing down the flow of traffic, making sure everyone is buckled up, and getting impaired drivers off the roads. A maximum enforcement period begins at 6 O’clock Friday and lasts through Midnight on Monday. Officers will be combing the roads for unsafe driving practices and seatbelt compliance. Officers will also focus on speeding, distracted driving, and drivers impaired by drugs or alcohol. Seatbelts are the most important factor in surviving a collision. During the 2023 Memorial Day weekend there were 46 people killed in CHP jurisdiction statewide. In Shasta County the CHP will deploy a motorcycle safety enforcement operation on Monday, focusing on speed, tailgating, unsafe lane changes and improper turning. In 2022 there were 42 injury crashes and 4 fatal crashes involving motorcycles in the CHP Redding Area jurisdiction.
