A Corning man was killed last Saturday when somebody turned in front of his Harley-Davidson. At around 2 O’clock in the afternoon, 47-year-old Brian James Smith was westbound on South Avenue near Woodson Bridge when 87-year-old Joseph Russo made a left turn in his Buick toward Gardiner Ferry Road directly in the path of the motorcycle. Smith tried to avoid the collision but broadsided the car. Lifesaving efforts were made but Smith died from several injuries suffered in the crash. Russo had minor injuries. The CHP does not believe alcohol was a factor.
