A Redding woman driving at a snails pace on Interstate 5 last week was injured when a big rig rear-ended her small car. The CHP says that at around 5:30pm on December 7th, 59-year-old Dawn Potterson was driving a Hyundai Sonata southbound near Sunset Hills Drive in Tehama County at only 25 MPH. A fully loaded tractor-trailer driven by an Ohio man was going about 60 MPH when it struck the back of the Hyundai. The big rig and the Hyundai both veered out of control from the slow lane across the fast lane, the median and both northbound lanes to the east shoulder of the freeway, where the big rig toppled onto its side and the Hyundai remained on its wheels. Both drivers were hospitalized and Potterson was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Northbound lanes were shut down for several hours. The CHP is asking witnesses to call them at (530) 737-6746.
