Saturday night the Cottonwood Chamber of Commerce sponsored their annual Hot Rods and Hogs car show. The chamber was proud of improvements made recently to beautify Main Street medians and they were looking forward to the big event. However, the chamber released a statement decrying an unsanctioned cruise that has occurred each year on the Friday night prior to the Saturday event, saying it’s caused danger to Cottonwood residents and property and has been marked with a lot of flagrant traffic violations. The CHP concurred and they turned out to maintain order on the streets of Cottonwood. They say that about an hour and a half after the unofficial cruise began it was out of control, with bystanders flooding the streets and getting into fights, drivers recklessly losing control of their cars and the air heavy with the smoke of burning rubber. With help from Sheriff’s Deputies the CHP shut the action down and ordered the crowds to disperse.
