CHP: Women Injured After Car Crashes Into Overturned Logging Truck On Highway 299

Two local 21-year-old women were badly injured Wednesday when their small car met with a load of tumbling logs in Trinity County. Just before 7AM 55-year-old Danny Milholland of Winemucca, Nevada was driving a westbound Peterbilt logging truck on Highway 299 east of Fawn Lodge. The CHP says he was going too fast, causing the truck to overturn into the eastbound lane, where a 2017 Hyundai Sonata was coming the other way. The driver, Jolene Eye of Anderson, tried to veer to the right to avoid the logs falling into her path but they crashed into the car and pushed it backwards off the pavement and 20 feet down the bank. Eye suffered a broken leg, two broken arms and a broken pelvis. Her passenger, Carmen Busbee of Redding, suffered a broken arm and a lot of cuts and abrasions to her face and arms. They were taken to Mercy Redding. Milholland was not hurt. The highway was closed for about 4 hours to clear the wreckage and the logs.
