On Tuesday the Redding City Council will consider spending public money on a revenue guarantee for United Airlines to convince them to offer a flight from Redding Regional Airport to Denver. A total of $2 Million will apparently ensure that the airline does not take a loss for the flight over the course of the first year. The city, with help from Shasta County Economic Development Corporation, has raised $550,000 from the community and another $1 Million through a combination of grant money and taxpayer dollars. Earlier this week the Shasta County Board of Supervisors denied a request to pitch in another $100,000 to the fund, having already earlier pledged $100,000. On Tuesday the council will be asked to commit another $450,000 from the General Fund.
