City Council May Approve Body Cameras For RPD Officers At Tuesday’s Meeting

The Redding City Council will be asked Tuesday night to approve a contract for body cameras to be worn by police officers. Staff has been evaluating and testing several brands and the city has chosen a company called Axon because it seems most user friendly. The company has more than 800,000 cameras in service worldwide. The Shasta County District Attorney’s Office is considering Axon for their investigators as well. The cost will be $250,000 annually for a five year contract. That includes 122 cameras and associated equipment, as well as cloud-based storage services. An upgrade will be provided 2-and-a-half years into the contract.
