City Council Will Get An Update On The Riverfront Specific Plan At Tuesday’s Meeting

A presentation at Tuesday’s Redding City Council Meeting will update the council and the public on the Riverfront Specific Plan. The project team will present emerging Redding riverfront concepts and alternatives being considered. The process began in 2021 when a coalition including developers and the McConnell Foundation made a bid to the city to purchase land including the Civic Auditorium and the Rodeo Grounds in order to totally overhaul the area. The City Council decided to use 1.5 Million Dollars of federal funds intended for parks on a new Riverfront Specific Plan that combines land use policies, transportation, development standards, cultural preservation and environmental protection policies for the Sacramento River’s edge from the Rodeo Grounds to the Cypress Avenue Bridge. Much of the land south of Highway 44 is already built out and has been in the hands of the Kutras Family for many decades. A consultant has been assembling the specific plan for the past two years. The City Council meeting starts at 6 O’clock Tuesday in the Council Chambers at City Hall. The evolving specific plan can be reviewed at reddingriverfront.org.
