Dolores Lucero, former Shasta Lake City Council Member and current candidate for that same office as well as the County School Board, has filed a lawsuit against Shasta County Judge Stephen Baker for alleged civil rights violations, and she is asking for a jury re-trial following a small claims case from a home improvement job she filed in June of this year. She was awarded $190.66, while the defendant Daniel Adams Construction was awarded over $1000 in a cross-claim. Lucero filed for a change of venue, and a motion to increase her damages, which she says were denied by Judge Baker in August. He also apparently denied her the right to represent herself in the case. Lucero claims that the judge denied her the right to present evidence in the case and objects to the defendant’s daughter being able to testify for the defense. Saying she was denied a fair trial, Lucero is asking for an order to stay the original award, pending a re-trial. She is also asking for an unspecified amount of money, saying it should be determined at the new trial. She also wants the judge to stop engaging in what she calls unconstitutional conduct. Lucero has a long list of civil cases that are either pending or on appeal.
