The Shoe Fire has not grown in a few days and is now 45% contained after burning 5,127 acres. It started October 9th on the north side of Lake Shasta 12 miles southwest of Big Bend. Fire crews are reinforcing containment lines around the perimeter while working toward the interior and eliminating hot spots. Drones are being used to assist in firing operations, and aircraft are using a mobile retardant base that’s been set up in Big Bend. Smoke will continue to effect Redding and surrounding areas from the Shoe Fire as well as some prescribed burns in the area. All evacuation orders are reduced to warnings, with details at protect.genasys.com. The Forest Service says the fire was human caused. There are 1,126 personnel fighting the fire.
