While the Shasta County Superior Court makes an effort to provide more parking for citizens serving jury duty, they’ve been trying to convince the City of Redding to grant a pause in the enforcement of parking in the immediate area surrounding the new courthouse. The street-side parking meters were made active on the day before the courthouse first opened to the public. There’s currently very little available parking in the lot to the east of the courthouse that’s reserved for court workers and jury members with the temporary parking permits that come with their summons’. The court made a request to the City Council for a 90 day grace period as arrangements are made for more parking, but that request was denied at Tuesday night’s council meeting. As a result, the juror parking permits are being disregarded by city parking enforcement, which is continuing to issue parking tickets to jurors’ who are forced to park on the street. Additional parking arrangements are anticipated within about 60 days, but in the meantime jurors are advised to pay the One Dollar per hour fee for city on-street parking.
