Couple Accused Of Exposing 8-Year-Old Child To Fentanyl Appear In Court

A Redding couple has been ordered to face charges including felony child abuse after allegedly exposing their young child to Fentanyl. On October 4th an 8-year-old child at Excel Academy was showing signs of a drug overdose and school officials administered NARCAN. The child was then taken to a hospital and is recovering. Officers arrested the parents, James Kenji Jonnel Timmons and Constance McCray, in a Downtown Redding motel room after they allegedly admitted to smoking Fentanyl in the small room in the presence of their 8-year-old that morning. Both appeared in court on Friday and will return November 2nd. McCray is out of custody with a GPS ankle monitor. Timmons remains jailed on $50,000 bail. He faces an additional charge after allegedly trying to sneak drugs into jail. Both parents have been ordered to have no contact with their child.
