It was a long and difficult process Thursday to clear the hundreds of big rigs that had accumulated on Northbound Interstate 5 following a very extended closure. Vehicles were being metered from the closure at Fawndale, with 50 at a time allowed to proceed. That process hit a snag at 6 O’clock Thursday night when a tractor-trailer tipped over near Vollmers north of Lakehead. The big rig blocked the entire northbound side as well as the fast lane on the southbound side. Heavy duty tow trucks and Caltrans crews soon managed to clear a shoulder enough for traffic to get through and one of the lanes was cleared within a couple of hours. Both lanes finally reopened at 4:25AM Friday morning.
