Crews Continue Effort To Clear Homeless Camps As The Sacramento River Rises Around 18 Inches

As the Sacramento River continues to rise, Redding Police continue to clear camps from near the river’s edge. The banks of the river are popular for illegal camping but a three-fold increase in releases by the Bureau of Reclamation has brought the river level up about 18 inches as of Wednesday. Teams of officers have spent the last few days issuing illegal camping citations and warning people about the potentially dangerous conditions. Officers also have been handing out resource cards with information about services available to the homeless population. The Community Work Program has removed around 2,500 pounds of debris that otherwise would have been swept downriver.
