Crews Continue To Gain More Containment On The Green Fire

Firefighters have been making steady progress toward full containment of the 19,000 acre Green Fire on the northeast edge of Lake Shasta, now 68% contained. An increasing chance of thunderstorms could bring gusty winds up to 50 miles an hour. Crews are working in steep and rugged terrain to complete 3 sections of uncontained fire line along the Pit River Arm of the lake, along Brock Mountain Road and west of Fenders Ferry Road. Effort is going into providing depth to containment lines and removing excess equipment. The Mountain Gate helicopter base is being used to deploy air resources and for equipment removal. Around 900 personnel are still working the Green Fire.
