A fire off Balls Ferry Road and Francis Way in the Cottonwood area Tuesday was held to about an acre. It was apparently an escaped control burn. Cal-Fire and the Forest Service have been conducting multiple prescribed burns and pile burns to reduce the risk of wildfires later in the year. There have also been many property owners eliminating vegetation that could be hazardous in the dry season.
