Crews Respond To Numerous Fires After Over 10,000 Lightning Strikes Are Reported

Wildland firefighters are chasing down small fires before they get big after more than 10,000 confirmed lightning strikes as of Tuesday night on Northern California federal lands. 3,860 lightning strikes were recorded on the Klamath National Forest in the 24 hours ending at 7AM Tuesday morning and 2,812 were recorded on the Shasta-Trinity National Forest as of 8PM Tuesday night.

The Carolina Fire, which is very visible from Seiad Valley, has burned about two acres.

The Summit Fire, west of Cliff Lake and the Pacific Crest Trail, is 6 acres and has prompted evacuations.

Smokejumpers are working the Springs Fire, 3 small fires in an old burn scar 5 miles upstream from Grider Creek Campground.

There are many other smaller fires in Siskiyou and Trinity Counties, some of them single trees.

More lightning fires are likely to be discovered in the coming days.

About an acre burned south of Shasta Gateway Drive in Shasta Lake City overnight.
