Klamath National Forest has seen its first wildfire of the season. The Sulfur Fire broke out Thursday afternoon near Sulfur Springs Campground south of Happy Camp on the east side of Elk Creek between Cougar and Copper Creeks. When crews started their attack it was about 2 acres with a moderate rate of spread in rough terrain near the top of a slope burning heavy timber and dead and downed fuels. Air tankers surrounded the fire with retardant drops as ground crews worked their way in to the scene. There’s no update yet Friday morning.
