Crews Working To Complete Suppression Repairs As Wet Weather Moves Over The Shoe Fire

Crews on the Shoe Fire footprint are racing to complete repairs before rains wash away the very steep muddy slopes. Suppression repair operations are well underway. Dozers have mostly completed the work of turning everything over to check for smoldering material. Now hand crews are being used to repair the damage done by the dozers. Excavators are installing water bars and cleaning out culverts. The fire is now 85% contained after burning 5,124 acres. It started October 9th on the north side of Lake Shasta 12 miles southwest of Big Bend, and it was human caused. All evacuation orders have been lifted, however a forest closure for the area remains in effect.
