Drivers should be aware of a change in the traffic configuration on South Market Street. Cal-Trans is installing a new multi-use path to make it safer for pedestrians and bicyclists where South Market passes beneath the railroad trestle south of Wydham Lane and becomes Highway 273. That stretch of roadway has taken a deadly toll over the years as non-vehicular traffic has had to make the risky route without the benefit of sidewalks or anything separating them from traffic that is often traveling at highway speeds. Cal-Trans is re-striping the roadway and making it one lane instead of two, allowing space for a dedicated bike and foot lane from Wyndham to Buenaventura. Work started Sunday and is set to be completed Monday.
