Gusty winds turned a structure fire into a firestorm in Downtown Weed Sunday. The old Black Butte Saloon on Main Street, which has a history of fires, was fully engulfed in flames that spread to other businesses, including a cannabis dispensary, and caused damage to a U.S. Bank Branch. Swirling winds of over 35 miles an hour had firefighters chasing multiple spot fires.
A structure fire spread to vegetation in the Buckeye area at the north edge of Redding Friday evening. The fire near Bailey Road and Charlie Lane apparently began as a shed on fire, and the flames spread, burning part of a residence and a small area of brush.
A fire near the Highway 273 bridge over Clear Creek in South Redding Friday morning led to traffic control and a train stoppage while firefighters worked and contained it to about an acre of brush. Crews had to access their water supply from the other side of the tracks.
