Thunderstorms have been rumbling through parts of Northern California. Little rainfall has been seen or is expected from the storms, so they’re sparking lightning fires in some areas. Thursday night lightning ignited a single tree on Callahan Street in the Siskiyou County town of Etna. More have likely been sparked in remote areas and Forest Service and CalFire aircraft will be patrolling for smoke in the coming days. Rural residents throughout the north state are encouraged to keep an eye out for fire or smoke columns following thunderstorms, and call 911 to notify fire agencies so they can attack fires quickly and keep them from spreading.
