Effort To Recall Two Gateway School Board Members Ends

A group of Shasta Lake City area parents are giving up their fight to recall two members of the Gateway Unified School District Board of Trustees. The married couple, Elias and Lindsi Haynes, had been a target of derision after joining forces with former Trustee Cherrill Clifford in forcing out the Superintendant and trying to replace him with Bryan Caples, who lost in a race for county school’s chief last year. Clifford resigned in February and a special election will be held in November to replace her at a cost of $100,000. The “Save Gateway” group had been gathering signatures to petition for a recall of the Haynes’s, but they say it would have cost the district another $225,000. They say they’ll instead focus on the elections that are already scheduled.
