There was a brief closure of Southbound Interstate 5 at Lake Shasta Monday night when an ambulance went up in flames. The fire was reported at about 8:20PM north of Packers Bay Road. The ambulance driver noticed smoke and fire coming from the engine compartment and pulled over to the shoulder of the freeway. The driver, the paramedic and the patient they were transporting all got out of the way without harm before the ambulance became engulfed in fire.
