EPA Proposes Fine Of Over 200K For 2022 Tanker Spill In Downtown Redding

The Federal Environmental Protection Agency has proposed a fine for a Redding-based oil and gas jobber for a crash that spilled a toxic mix of fuels in Downtown Redding that flowed all the way to the river. On the morning of January 21st of 2022, a tanker truck owned by S.S.T. Oil was northbound on Pine Street at a speed that caused the driver to lose control and overturn the trailer. She was uninjured but the tanker spilled 8,000 Gallons of Gasoline, Diesel and Jet Fuel, which flowed down gutters and storm drains, with an unknown volume reaching the Sacramento River via Calaboose Creek. State Fish and Wildlife crews built barriers to try and minimize the damage, but drinking, swimming and fishing south of the Cypress Avenue Bridge was discouraged for an extended time period. The EPA. has proposed a fine of around $209,000 to be imposed on Shasta-Siskiyou Transport.
